Advanced Farriery

UQ VETS Equine Specialist Hospital has an equine podiatry service that is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of problematic conditions of the foot. Advanced techniques such as digital radiography, retrograde digital contrast venography and 3D contrast CT are utilised where appropriate to provide an accurate diagnosis and to guide the treatment process.

Master farrier Craig Jones routinely sees cases three days a week at our facility and works closely with our clinicians to apply the very latest techniques in corrective shoeing and surgical/medical management for each case. UQ VETS Specialists, Dr Carlos Medina and Dr Steven Zedler are both actively involved in research into laminitis (founder), both driven to improve treatment regimes and outcomes for equines and work closely with Craig Jones, as do the remainder of the team.

Common cases and advanced farrier services include but are not limited to:

  • Laminitis (Founder)
  • Hoof cracks
  • Performance horses  requiring corrective shoeing
  • Keratoma
  • Hoof  wall resection and other  hoof  surgery
