Client Information

What times are available for appointments?

The operating hours of UQ VETS Equine Specialist Hospital are 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday. We ask that wherever possible that your horse departs during business hours, if you and your horse is likely to arrive/depart the clinic outside these hours we ask that you discuss this in advance.

How do I make an appointment?

To make an appointment simply contact the UQ VETS Equine Specialist Hospital during business hours on 07 54601799. One of our friendly reception staff will find an appropriate and convenient time for you and your horse to see one of our veterinarians.

Do I need to make an appointment?

Although the UQ VETS Equine Specialist Hospital business hours are Monday to Friday (8am – 4pm), our veterinarians are not always available to see patients at any time. They may be in surgery, treating hospitalised patients, or teaching students. Non-urgent cases presented without an appointment may have to wait until a veterinarian is free. For your convenience, we strongly urge you to make an appointment in advance. For emergency cases please see below.

If you are a new client or an existing client bringing in a new horse for the first time you can assist by completing the attached 'Ownership Declaration Form (pdf 100kb)' and return to clinic via email or fax prior to your appointment.

What about if it is an emergency?

Emergency cases are seen 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year. All emergency cases must be referred by a veterinarian who has attended to the horse for its current problem and we must speak to your veterinarian before we can accept the horse into hospital.  While the hospital is staffed 24/7, our on-call Specialists are not always on the premises, especially on nights and weekends. We must have notice of an emergency to obtain the right details from you so we can assemble the correct team and equipment.

What do I need to bring?

Please download, print and fill in the Owner Declaration Form (pdf 100kb) on this page and bring it with you or fax / email through in advance.
Please bring any relevant medical history with you or have them sent to UQ Vets - Equine Specialist Hospital - uqvets.eq@uq.edu.au (vaccination history, previous medical records from other veterinarians, X-rays etc).

We ask clients to take any tack with them when they leave to avoid disappointment if this equipment goes missing
